I have always enjoyed being active and playing sports from a young age, starting with my first love, soccer. At age three, who knew this love and dream of playing at the collegiate level would be accomplished, but in 2007 I achieved this goal with a scholarship to Auburn University.
During my freshmen year, my world was flipped upside down with a reacquiring knee injury (ACL), which led to medical disqualification. Heartbreak came on quickly as the realization of the uncertainty of dreams, goals, identity or purpose began to settle in my thoughts. For the majority of my life I was Jessi, the soccer player. Now what?
God woke me up to the real reality that my identity is not in what I do, it is my faith in Him, what I believe in, stand for and how I live my life taking advantage of His blessings and gifts. He blessed me with a college education, a school that honored a scholarship all four years, the knowledge from years of experience playing sports, and love for being active. Combining all of these blessings and opportunities, I received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2011.
Through this heartbreak God blessed me with the realization that my identity is not in fitness, sports, or a career; it is in Him. With the opportunities He has given me, my goal is to live out his purpose. The best way I know how to do that is to be as healthy as I can be so I am ready for whatever he has planned. Therefore my goal as a trainer is to help individuals crave more by encouraging and motivating them to reach a higher quality of life that is full of health and fulfillment, not just a number on the scale.
We were not placed on earth to just survive, “we were made to thrive” (Casting Crowns). Overall wellness is about quality of life and striving to accomplish goals and doing so with more energy, excitement, and overall health.
A primary advantage training with Jessi versus other trainers is her association with Dr. Craig Steingraber and doctoral level evaluation of what exercises may be more appropriate given your own personal health history. Along with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and ACSM Personal trainer certification, Jessi has experience working with a wide variety of ages and individuals. Individualizing exercise programs around personal health needs decreases the chance of injury and unnecessary soreness along with maximizing your personal training efforts.
With a goal to increase overall wellness, training will consist of muscular fitness, flexibility, cardiovascular and neuromotor exercises. Training will include weekly workout plans, helpful articles, and consultation in setting short and long term goals. Along with training, social support, encouragement, and coaching will be there every step of the way from Jessi.
